As a Physiotherapy (PT) graduate, you undoubtedly remember how important the members of the PT Clinical Community were to your education. Clinical Education and associated placements make up approximately 1/3rd of a student’s journey through the PT Program. Our program could not function without the generous support of our clinical community, who are our clinical instructors, tutors, guest speakers, and resources for so many evaluations and activities in the program. We are always looking to welcome and orient interested sites and instructors!
If you have been thinking about contributing to the PT community, please consider supervising a student in the McMaster PT Program. Our program relies on the dedication and commitment of our partners.
Join the community by contacting ptclned@mcmaster.ca for more information.
We look forward to hearing from you and tapping into your expertise to support the continual excellence in our program!
New Clinical Partner Process
1. The Clinical Education team receives a request from a new site to take students or a new site comes to our attention.
2. The site is contacted by the Director of Clinical Education (DCE). The DCE provides information on the process to become a new clinical site.
3. The Clinical Education Assistant (CEA) sends the site an Affiliation Agreement and WSIB Agreement to review and sign.
4. The Clinical Education team books a site visit (approximately 30 minute – 1 hour visit)
5. Site visit and New Site Visit Checklist are completed.
6. Site visit is entered into site visit database and checklist is filed
7. The CEA adds the new site’s clinical instructor/s and/or clinical site coordinator to the electronic distribution list to receive emails about upcoming placement requests.
8. The site is now ready to offer placement opportunities.

The Preceptor Education Program is an online interprofessional program that consists of eight interactive learning modules. The modules are available on this website, or through eCampus Ontario as an open education resource. Each module takes 30-45 minutes to complete. The modules include downloadable resources, learning exercises, video case scenarios and references. Learning is self-directed and the modules can be completed in any order, however it is recommended learners complete them sequentially from module 1 to 8. After completing a module, participants may complete an optional feedback survey. A certificate can be printed at the end of each module to record the education completed.
